Ice After The Snow

Posted on 13 January 2011

It was one dangerous drive to work today. My company had been closed since Monday and it finally opened today with an 2 hours delay. Here in the State of Georgia we are not used to snow and ice and when it snowed or ice really badly, everything closes. Majority of the companies has been closed since Monday and some are still not even open yet. Schools are all closed and will resume back on Tuesday of next week after the MLK holiday if weather gets better. I haven’t been back at school since Wednesday of last week since I am taking Monday and Wednesday classes we’ve only been in class for one night and had been snowed in since.  This year had been the worst snow year that I can remember. We’re normally closed for only one day and the next day we’ll be back on normal time or 2-4 hours delay the second day, but this year the company that I work for had  been closed for 3 days and the 4th day being 2 hours delay. Normally the snow and ice would melt by the next day, but this year had been much colder than normal thus the ice and snow are still on our roads.

I had a hard time getting my car out of my driveway, or more like where I park. I don’t park on the driveway, I park in front of the house on the grass. My car was still covered in snow and ice, the ground was cover in snow and top layer as ice. My younger brother had to help me out of the driveway. When I got home I couldn’t pull  my car up onto the driveway so I parked on the street.

The first picture (above) is taken off the exit to the office. Driving at 5mph.. it was very scary!

Under the bridge off my exit to the office can you see the ice? it was scary!

The road to the office.. still iced up!

that road looks dangerous!! but then again, when you have to go, you have to go. a while back, a buddy of mine posted a picture from one of our news station here in charlotte pointing out that this snowing season covered all 49 states except florida. well, i’ll say, that’s a lot of snow.

Our workplace sits on one of the most steepest roads in Hickory and we never closed. If you could make it then it’s opened and they would even come out to get you, but I drove myself everyday that it snowed.

Nye, I would be too scared to drive out when it had snowed and iced. Driving to work after 3 days of snow was already hard on me. I guess I am too spoiled with this whole being off thing.

Try living in MN. I wish we have snow days like you guys. So far, we’ve only closed once due to the first heavy snow fall. Otherwise, we put our lives in danger everyday..rain, shine, snow, blizzard. Right now, it’s about 10 degrees out. BRRRR!
