I watched a few news clips on funeral plans and the death of General Vang Pao, it actually brought tears to my eyes. My sister called me the other day and told me that my parents were very emotional after hearing the death of the general. He was a highly honored man in the Hmong community around the world. Without General Vang Pao the Hmong community will be living a very different life style, the majority of us will still be in Laos, farming in the mountains, uneducated, living each day tending to the small farm we have and the small live stock. Majority of us will not become doctors, nurses, teachers and etc that we are today. Every Hmong individual should be thankful that we had had a powerful man who brought us to freedom, the land of the free and gave us the life we have today.

zaum no tsis mus saib vaj pov ces ntshe yuav tsis pom nws tiag tiag lawm. i remembered seeing him a few couple times, opening new years in madison, wisconsin and milwaukee, wisconsin. but, sometimes, i’d wish i could have done more. nevertheless, vang pao was a revered general and a great leader among us. he will not be forgotten.
Ze, I wish that others saw GVP through your eyes. There are those who do not believe that because of him, they are alive. While technically our parents were responsible for ‘bringing’ us to the US or which ever country – if it had not been for GVP, we wouldn’t be here today – or born at all for that matter. That is the one fact that can not be taken from him regardless of any of his history then until now be it positive or negative.
Nyuam, Thanks! I notice that a lot of the younger generations (especially here in GA) doesn’t care about their roots hence they really don’t care about GVP. GVP had done a lot for us Hmong people as a whole and yet it’s sad to see that some people does not respect him. I guess some people are not willing to be opened minded and see it through.
