Georgia Hmong New Year 2010-2011 Day 2
Posted on 16 November 2010
Here are photos from day two of the Georgia Hmong New Year. Again this year there wasn’t many performers and not many people showed up but regardless we still made the best of it and had a great time.
My two cousins, they are wearing the Hmong strip outfit, two of the dancers from the younger group.
My cousin Emily Vang (my dad’s sister’s daughter) and my cousin Vandala Moua (my dad’s brother’s daughter) and I. THey are wearing the Hmong Daub outfits. Two dancers from the older group.
The dancers from Arkansas. I thought they were really good.
My cousins dancing on stage. I had a good laugh at this dance. They were like little marching ants. My little cousin Treasure taught them this dance. They are wearing Hmong strip outfits.
My cousins, the older girls performing wearing the White Hmong outfits. The two girls in the middle are also dancers in the younger group.
Ball tossing is a way of meeting and courting at the Hmong New Years. To be honest it is not celebrated here in GA much since younger generations are not into ball tossing and the elders are not enforcing it.

The little ones are so adorable in their outfits, I bet they are fun to watch.
I guess the one in NC has more people attending, I hope the weather will be nice that weekend.
Nye, I will post up videos of the dances. I just need to go get the videos from my aunt, she was recording all the performances.
THe NC New Year is 10 times bigger than the one we have here in GA since they have the biggest Hmong population here in the south east, and many people travels from different state to attend their new year. I will be one of them.
I too hope the weather would be nice! THe GA new year we had great weather, I would be really happy if the weather for the NC one this thanksgiving will be just as nice.
