Wow I had been posting alot on Xab and his works this week (and more to come with Xab too)!!!

Remember my previous post of the song Lawv Os Lawv, I had mentioned about the Tig Laug Xab Tour as I tried to describe and explained this video and how it connects to the song, well I found the preview on youtube and thought I’ll share it and also I can finally do a review on this tour/documentary video.

I saw this documentary by Xab Thoj and all his buddies a year ago and I had been wanting to do a review on it, but was always so busy or I had post up some other things so I had been putting it on the back burner.

I recommend this documentary for everyone to watch, it’s a very good documentary! In this documentary they have a wide variety of topics they discuss to show the viewer; this is a two disc documentary with many topics they touched base on, it’s not too long nor was it too short.

Xab showed us the many concerts he performed at and his daily life. He showed us how life in Thailand for the Hmong people who still live there was like. He also showed us how life was like in America and then he took us to see how life was like for the Vietnamese Hmong, the Hmong who I honestly did not know exist until recently when the Black and Flower Hmong of Sapa was documented. They also showed us the many festive events such as the Hmong New Years, the walk around the chicken, the ball tossing games, pageants and what not.

Not only did they document the Hmong New Years and the Hmong lifestyle, they also documented life after the Secret War, a war that killed many thousand Hmong people which lead the migration of the Hmong people. I thought this part of the video was heart breaking yet very informative. While I was watching this part of the documentation I had tears in my eyes, I saw how life was like for the many refugees who was still in Thailand and how life was like back in those days. They showed not only what was left of those places, but they show clips of when people were still in those refugee camps, life after the brutal war and clips of after everyone had left the camps. They show the good, the bad, the nice and the ugly, everything that will explain a lot and will help you have a clear vision how life was like for these people.  The clips really made me kho siab.

Of course, they didn’t end the documentary at such heartbreaking state, they actually documented behind the scenes of making Hmong movies and videos and also how Xab’s albums were made; how he recorded and written those albums. They show what the actors and actresses do on their off times and what not.

Then the ending of the documentary was the documentary of the movie “Nuj Npliaj Special”. They showed us behind the scene of this movie and how fun and hard it was to make and produce this movie.  This movie was not only informative on the Hmong refugees but they were also able to show us great details on Hmong people and their entertainments. I think everyone should give this documentary a go at. It’s not only a well made documentary but it was also very informative, sad, happy and everything in between.
