Jackfruit
Posted on 09 April 2010
I had stop by Aussi Market (Korean grocery store) down the road from my workplace during my lunch hour and bought a jackfruit. I needed to pick up some things for my mom and I had also needed to pick up lunch. I decided to go to Aussi since that is the closes Farmers Market type store by my work place. The store is only about 3-4 minutes away from work so it didn’t kill too much of my lunch time. Anyways, I picked up a jackfruit on my way out of the store. Jackfruits are a large type of fruits grown on trees in Asia.
This is the first time I had ever bought a fresh jackfruit, normally I would just purchase canned jackfruit, but man, the fresh jackfruit is so very good! It’s very messy though, I got some sticky jackfruit juice all over my hands and had to run it with hot water and soap to clean up all the sticky juice off my hands.
The fruit may be big, but the eatable portion of the fruit isn’t so big. The fruit is like a big pod, inside the pod has smaller pods that holds the seed, so I would say each eatable part of the fruit is the pod that holds the seed in place.
Did I mentioned I love love love the smell of the Jackfruit, it’s very sweet smell, like Jasmine. Love it!! Don’t forget the taste is very yummy too!!!
My mom likes to buy the canned jackfruit and put add them in with her Nava (tri-color desserts) or my mom likes to eat it on its own. The fruit is so huge that instead of buying my mom her own, I just cut 1/3 for myself and gave my mom the rest. I am sure she’ll enjoy the jackfruit because I know she loves eating jackfruits.
Now I want to try a Durian next!!! hummm all I’ve seen are the frozen Durians, none that are fresh, I guess I’ll have to go to Thailand or Laos for fresh Durian fruits since I’ve heard that they smell bad but tastes very good.

Here is the portion I had cut for myself, this is only 1/4, but I ended up getting 1/3 instead of 1/4. LOL

The jackfruits after I took them out and took out the seeds.

They sold them at our local temple, but it was so expensive and the aroma is to die for. Not sure about the Durian though, the aroma might kill you, but they have a hybrid one now that smells like Durian/Banana, this I like to try.
Nye, I love the aroma of the fruit! It’s a wonderful sweet smell! I’ll wait til I go to Thailand or Laos (if ever) to try the Durain, even if it’s the hybrid, well I’ll have to get pass the smell first.
i’m so jealous!!! i’ve only had fresh jackfruit once, and it’s stuck in my mind as the most delicious jackfruit i’ve ever had!!! ur jackfruit looks soooo good!
