Movie Review: Txiv Nplooj Siab
Posted on 16 December 2009
I had just finished watching the movie “Txiv Nplooj Siab” (“A Piece of Dad’s Heart”, another word, “A father’s Love”). My friend was telling me about how great this movie was and I thought I should give this movie a try. Hummm How should I start with this movie review? The good things first or the bad things first?? Okay as always I’ll go ahead with the bad things so I can end on a good note.
Here’s what the movie is about before I go on with myBADs and GOODs of this movie.
Meng was a disobedient son who just wanted to have himself some fun, who always fight with his father and wants things his way, well all in all, he does do some things as his father wants, althought he finds himself having fun and drinking more often than helping around the house. Meng found himself fighting with some gangsters and got stabbed to death. When he went for his judgement, he fought with Nom Pha saying that he was being a good son but his father does not see how great he is, his dad is always lecturing him and will never understand him therefore he rather dies. Well the GOD (Nom Pha) decided to send him back to earth as a ghost to see how his parents are doing and what he meant to his parents. As he watch his parents live life without him and how sad they were, it torn his heart apart. So Meng went back to Nom Pha and beg for 7 days to spend with his family one last time, but Nom Pha only granted him 5 days (although seriously it seems like at least a whole month LOL). The deal was when he comes to earth he must not tell anyone who he really is, if he does, he must return back to the heavens before his 5 days are up. So he went back to earth to help his parents out by saying he was this guy from America named Phong.
The bads…
The girl’s acting was HORRIBLE, yes that girl was horrible, thank goodness her part was very little. I couldn’t stand her super boy short hair cut, I don’t think it looks good on her at all! The fighting scene was hummm a bit much, well no it’s not a bit much I just couldn’t stand how the camera man shoot so freaken close on them, dude, fight scenes should not be close up, it should be far enough so we can see the fight, I swear the fight scenes were so close up on their faces. Besides that, I think thats the only bad things I can think of AS OF RIGHT NOW. ahahaha.
The GOODS….
The storyline was very very very good! I really like the purpose and the point of this movie, it was well casted and it was well directed. I was able to understand the point of this movie and they didn’t waste time, well except for the few time that did drag a little, but the movie didn’t drag so much, just on selected parts. But seriously this movie was serious and down to the point.
They all did a great job playing their characters and boy were they all good at crying. They were seriously crying!! This movie was very emotional yet very good. A great Hmong movie, one of the best I’ve seen this year. Well worth it! I think everyone should watch this movie and honestly, like this movie said, our parents only yell and lecture us because they love us, they want to see us grow to be good and healthy people, they lecture us because they are scared that we’ll do something bad or we may hurt ourself one way or another. Like I’ve always lecture my younger sister Cindy, it’s not because they hate us when they yell and lecture us, it’s because they want the best for us.
I honestly think everyone should give this movie a try! I enjoyed it and I really like the message of the movie, if you guys can get your hands on this movie, watch it! Seriously WATCH IT!!

Our main charcter Meng. He’s not bad looking ahaha

Meng’s dying scene… That’s his girlfriend, I couldn’t stand her short hair and her bad acting, good thing she only got a small part

Meng during judgement day. LOL

Meng as a ghost trying to hug his mother

Meng came back as a ghost watching his dad living life without him

Meng came back as PHONG helping a mere stranger

Meng came back as PHONG

Meng came back as PHONG, sharing some time with his family although they do not know it’s him

Phong’s last night on earth, this is when they found out that he is their son

Saying their last goodbyes before Meng leaves for good

The day being sad about his son and life

I know this is off the topic but I found this site by searching on Yahoo for DVD information. How did you optimize your blog to place so high in the search engine results?^_^
Antony, good question, I am not too sure, but it might had also been my domain (username) as well. It seems like a lot of people happen to search my user (mozemoua) a lot. And not just that, but I do a lot of blogging on Hmong entertainments so that might had helped. Also WordPress have a option to allow search engine to find me and I’ve been blogging for a while now so that might had helped as well. good to know that search engines are doing their job! =0)
i would really appreciate it if someone could tell me who sings that song that plays in the movie whenever the scene of him (meng) and his girlfriend come on. the song starts off in english then the singer switches to hmong. that’s the best i can do at explaining it. i’ve been looking all over for it!
Soua, If I am correct the song you are talking about is called “Daim Nplooj Qhua” by Skyline on their debut album entitled “Paub li hnub ntawv”.
Here is the website for the song translation that I had done, let me know if this is the correct song.

Hi im gonna use your pics for a review im posting on hlub.us. let me know. i’ll take them off if its not ok. Thanks.
Septemer, It’ll be no problem at all, you may take these photos to share on Hlub.
What is the song in this movie? The song where it has a piano in it, it’s part english and part hmong. I think it’s a beautiful song, but I don’t know the title to it.
PNT, If it’s the song i am thinking of than its the song called “Daim Nplooj Qhua” by a group called Skyline. All the songs featured in this movie except for I believe one song is by Skyline.
Here is my post on the song
Daim Nplooj Qhua
I just recently saw this movie! I was worried it was going to be like any other hmong movie where it would drag. But come to fine out it wasn’t that bad! The filming could of been better but otherwise the story line was good and somewhat straight to the point! Nice! I guess it was worth my $35 for both! Anyways..what I wanted to ask was what’s the title of the song that is sung by mykurt? I can’t seem to find it! Do you know where I can find the song. It’s the one that he sings about his dad?? Lol! Let me know if you have any idea! Thanks!
Hmoobtsheej, Sorry but I honestly do not know the song by Mykurt, I am not a fan of his so I don’t know. The only songs I know from this movie are the songs sang by Skyline. I can try to search for that song but I don’t know if I’ll be successful at it, but I’ll try. I thought this was a very good movie, they did a great job although some little fixing is needed it was still very good and the point of the movie was carried on very well. They kept me interested through out the movie and I even shed a few tears.
Lasia, you are totally a dork! The guy is cute, but he’s not all that b/c he reminds me of my friend’s brother! LOL Oh hey, you’re single, why not mail in order him? ahhahaha
it sure is a good movie! I like it! I think all Hmong kids should totally watch it! Dude I still need to watch Jao Fah 2 as well! grr so behind. LOL
Bao, I am so sorry for the late reply but yes the songs are by “Skyline” and I did do a review on the song “Daim Nplooj Qhua” earlier this year. Also if you want the piano composistion it is by Yurima called “kiss the rain”
