I've taken the task to "UA PAJ NTAUB"
Posted on 16 July 2009
Yes I am serious too! This past Sunday I had decided that I wanted to take the task to ua paj ntaub and so far I’ve been doing a fairly good job. On Sunday after work, I called my phauj (my dad’s sister) up and told her I wanted to do a full outfit for myself and for her to give me some examples. She told me to go buy the thread to stitch the paj ntaub while she’ll provide the examples and the cross stitch materials.
So I went to her house and then we started digging through all her daughters Hmong clothes including hers as well. I found the perfect example I wanted to use and decided to switch the colors around.
I’ve helped my mom make paj ntaub before, but never finish a full outfit on my own, if I finish this one it’ll be my very first one that I’ll finish on my own without my mom finishing it up for me or helping me out. I am very excited and hope that I can finish this outfit by November so I can wear it for the New Years. Ahahaha
I guess I’ll keep you guys updated on my progress.. so far so good!!
Below is the SHAY (apron like) that I am using as my example and guide. I decided to change the colors around with purple since I love the color purple and i am using the white cross stitches instead. When I finish I”ll be hoping to use Purple for the shirt and to put under the sewing. I Have to use purple since I love purple. If I am able to complete this one, I am thinking about designing my own patterns.

Below are my own.. this is my progress thus far… remember I had only started the paj ntaub on sunday night and with my busy schedule I haven’t been able to put much time into this. I’ve completed more than this since I last took the pictures, I’ll update later.

I’ve several bags that I bought back from Laos with this design, fell in love with it, and I want to make one for myself. I’m still learning, it’s a lot harder than I thought, I’m hoping to be able to make a small bag by Christmas.
oh gosh! I hope you have the patience up for it. Knowing you, you tend to give up quick.
Be sure to let us see it when you are done with it. Cant’ believe how expensive some of them can be. I love the new modern ones. They’re so cute!
Geeze, thanks for the great motivation, some friend you are. Blah, you suck Bee!
you should totally do the bags. When you complete them do let us see them! For me, it’s very easy since I’ve done them a many times before and what not, but it’s just very time consumming, and I am horrible at time managing, not just that very busy too.
I do agree, they are very very expensive! I am not such a big fan of the new style, I am more of the modorn and original style person when it comes to Hmong Clothes. I don’t own any of the new style outfits at all, but I do suppose I should just buy one for keep. Lets hope I can finish this one for the GA new years, if not, I guess I can wear one of the other ones I have.
I’ll keep you guys posted.
