review on Kos Lis's 9th album

Posted on 13 July 2009

Kos Lis’s 9th album to me was a huge disappointment. His last album was so good, one of the best, and then all the sudden he released an album that seemed so rushed and so not detailed. I was very excited when I saw the album, but once I started to listen to it, it was just nothing what I was expecting from him. He is one talented singer, strong and great voice, but then in this album, all his songs just were not what I wanted from him. I wanted more, I wanted something good, but instead he seemed to rush this album out. His last album was released in November of 2008 and then just a few months later he released this album, don’t you think it was a bit rushing? The music quality was not good what so ever. Of all the songs, I say only two songs from this album was decent. I am very disappointed, but I still have high hope that Kos’s next album will be much better and not as rushing.
Here is one of the better songs from this album, the song is entitled “Noog kaub kim yaj nqa nplooj siab” which means The KAUB KIM bird had taken my heart. Whew I must say, this was one of the most difficult song I had ever tried to translate. Some of the words he used were very technical to where it’s almost impossible to translate so I had to find words around it to translate the song in a more correct term. Also “KAUM KIM” (kaow Kee) is a type of bird which I have absolutely no idea what type of birds it is.

07 – Noog Kaub Kim Yaj Nqa Nplooj Siab.MP3

tus noog kaub kim yaj aw
Oh, the bird KAUB KIM had flown away
koj muaj tis ya koj ya mus lawm
you have wings and flown away
tseg tag lub zos toj siab nyob cia kuam pwm
you left this mountain village alone with sorrow

lub suab kaub kim yaj aw
Oh, the sound of the KAUM KIM
ntxheb tag lub zos toj siab tsis hnov
the sound had disappear from this mountain village
twb ntsia ntuj tsaus tsis muaj koj lub suab ntxhi
as I look at the night sky, I don’t hear your beautiful voice

[chorus]
koj tseg tag koj lub chaw nphob xuav nphob ntsug tag lawm
you left behind your place in a mess of memories
rau rooj teb no ntshe thaum leej twg nco nco koj ib leeg dhau
here in this lonely village for someone to miss you with all his heart

kuv nco kawg kuv lub zog
I miss you with all my heart
nco koj ib leeg nyob kuv nplooj siab
In my heart, you are the only one I miss
niav hnub txhos caug thov ntuj seb puas rov los
Every day I kneel and pray to the heavens for your return

[instrumental]

noog liab noog lub siab dub
The red bird with a cruel heart
nqa tus me neeg kuv hlub
you took the person I love
nqa mus tsis rov ze npaum leej twg nyob
you took her far away and set her with someone else
nco koj ib leeg dhau
I miss you the most

kuv nco kawg kuv lub zog
I miss you with all my heart
nco koj ib leeg nyob kuv nplooj siab
In my heart, you are the only one I miss
niav hnub txhos caug thov ntuj seb puas rov los
Every day I kneel and pray to the heavens for your return

niav hnub txhos caug thov ntuj seb puas rov los
Every day I kneel and pray to the heavens for your return
kuv nco, nco koj ib leeg kawg kuv lub zog
I miss, miss only you with all my heart

I think that’s what happen when they rushed things and most album would sell if they have a good 1 or 2 songs. I do like this song that you’re sharing, I love his voice.

Wow…you really know your Hmong. I sure couldn’t translate like that. hahaha..let alone speak it. lmao.

  • [...] his voice is great with those type of songs, but I love him more with this type of music)! His last album disappointed me a whole lot since his 8th album was great, but regardless, I am still in love with [...]

My dad had always make sure we speak Hmong at home (when he is around) so I speak Hmong pretty well, but to be honesty I had lost a lot of my speaking skills since we’ve moved to GA. Some of the words he used in this song was hard to translate, but I somewhat managed it. ahaha

I just wish he wouldn’t had rushed it and just wait til the new years to release another album, a good one. But man, his voice is still hot hot hot! ehehe.

  • mozemoua says:
