Sorry no youtube clip for this movie yet..
Looking into watching a good Hmong comedy? Well I said why not try watching “Kuv Txiv Tsis Kam Laus” (My Father Refuses to grow old) word for word that’s what the name of the movie is but in a correct term title you may say it means (My father refuses to stop messing with young girls). Honestly in a lot of Hmong movies we normally get the same Hmong comedy that does get old after it’s been used a couple of times, but truth be told I truly enjoyed this Hmong comedy.
In this movie the father starring Txwj Hwm Hawj is a Hmong Thai Citizen who had just came back from the United States after two years of what he called “visiting” the families. But in fact he had gone to the United States to mess with young girls. The movie started out when the father returns home after two years and his wife and son who are very “ba nao”(none modernized) trying to pick up the father from the “stop light” with a mere motorcycle and a pulling wagon.
I found it very funny how the father kept trying to lied to his wife by saying that the cousins are calling him over to help them kill pigs for the “ua neeg” and what not, but the wife who is played by Cue Yaj always ends up falling for it over and over again, thus she is the type of woman who believes her husband is one of the best and most faithful type of husbands. Soon enough she later found out about her husband’s cheating ways. I found it funny how the farther told his son to not call him “father” when he sees young women and to call him “brother” and not to tell his mother about it. The son played by Tsab Lauj’s character’s name means “chicken poop” played a slow and a bit retarded only child. I love his character, I think his character really brings the movie alive. I love how when his father tells him not to tell his mother of how he was with another girl, he not knowing any better goes right back to his mom and tells his mother exactly what his father had said.
I thought the whole story of this movie was wonderful, yes and another typical Hmong Comedy with a cheating husband type movie, but it was very enjoyable! I love all the comedy scenes. I must have laughed throughout this movie while they were pulling practical Hmong jokes, or were just plain out stupid. I had to say this one is one of the best Hmong comedy movies I’ve seen.
I have so many favorite part in this movie, but one of the parts I must point out is the part where the son Chicken Poop was going to visit his girlfriend, but he was a bit too late and some guys were kidnapping her to marry her, but without knowing, he had helped them kidnap her away (it was at night) and when he realized it was her he tried fighting back but the gate was closed and he tired jumping the face. Boy was I laughing so hard during this part. The scene when he was at home crying over his girlfriend’s marriage was a classic! I loved the funny faces he gave out while crying. They were awesome.
Another funny part was when the mother had poison the father’s food so he can fall asleep, once the poison kicked in she started to cut his hair, each time he cut a group of hair she stated what the cut was for, it was hilarious. The father’s reaction to his bold head was also another classic. And when his wife cut up his “pimping” clothes how he sews them all back together was another hilarious moment.
I enjoyed the part when he finally met up with his girlfriend of two years. When she finally saw him for the first time she started to cry stating that she never knew he was that old and ugly. Ahaha, man, it was awesome!
Okay now that I had said enough about the good things of the movie, let’s turn to the bad things of the movie. I honestly hated the ending. I thought they should have put more dept into the ending. It was a great movie, but the ending wasn’t so great. I was very disappointed over the ending. There wasn’t any solution for the husband’s cheating ways and what not. But I guess because the movie was so awesome and funny that I sort of let it bypass although I still wish the ending would had been better!
Well I recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a good Hmong comedy. I give this movie a 9 out of 10, I guess the ending gave it a 9 or it would had been a 10. They picked perfect people to be these characters. First time I saw a good comedy without Xai Thoj being one of the main characters, in fact he wasn’t in this movie at all, and he is one of Hmong’s best comedy movie stars. Either way anyone who enjoys a good Hmong comedy, do watch this movie, you’ll enjoy the laugh!

when they went to pick the father up after returning home from the United States

LOve this scene! The parents and the friend though Ckn Poop and his girlfriend were having sex when they were only playing a cellphone game. LOL

This movie is HILLARIOUS!!! The crying part is the BEST! Nice review!!!
I really like your blog – has Hmong stuff, along with movie reviews, lots of photography, and even recipes.
I don’t watch many Hmong movies but I do want to see the latest ones. You know ever since Gran Torino, my friends have been curious about the Hmong culture and want to watch Hmong movies with English subs. I want to find them good Hmong movies with subs.
Forgot to mention that I do have “Heaven On Earth” with Preity Zinta but haven’t watched it yet. It’s not a Bollywood movie either. Although the director is Indian, her production are American-based. Sorry for the history lesson.
Nicki, thanks so much! I try to keep me blog interesting with different type of entertainments or thoughts and ideas. As for Hmong movies with subtitles, I don’t think there are any and if there are, not many peopel out there would really want to watch low budget movies. But I must say we are getting somewhere with our movies. I just started really watching Hmong movies late last year into this year, I’ll watch some here and there before, but now I am really into them.
Oh, I didn’t know “heaven on earth” wasn’t a bollywood movie. I just saw the trailer and my friend had just purchased her copy so I’ll be able to get my hand on it sometimes this week or maybe early next week. The movie looks very interesting.

I like his classic cry, very funny.
NKAUJ—I have “Neeg Tsis Swm Zoo” sitting on my table for the past week and a half now, I’ve seen the movie already, but not the whole thing thus I haven’t done a review on it yet. I want to find time to rewatch it so I can see all the stuff I had missed. I also have few more Hmong movies on my “to watch” list, but havent gotten time. As for this movie, it’s a good laugh, when you find the time, do watch it.
