Hmong Boy Band D-Fap
Posted on 20 March 2009
So I was out of music to listen to thus I was getting old and tired of my old music, listening to the same stuff over and over again does get a bit old, so I decided that I should get some new music. I had asked a friend of mine to see which album, or which singer shall I try listening to next. Malee, my friend, had suggested the new Hmong Boy Band called Dfap, knowing myself I was a little skeptical about it since I am not so big on Hmong boy bands because most of the new Hmong boy bands I’ve heard are just not that great, they seem to not put enough effort into their music and well, their lyrics isn’t the greatest, their voices may need a bit more help and it’s just not my type of music, well for the most part only a few boy band can surpass my harsh judgments.
To prove to me Malee sent me one of her favorite song from their album called “Vim Yoj Koj” (Because of You) and to my surprise I had been trying to figure out who the singer to this particular song was since I’ve heard the song few times from other websites. So I decided that I shall give this new boy band a try.
< was able to get my hands on their first and only album and finally listened to it the next day and to my surprise, wow, they blew me away; they had once again proved me wrong that not ALL new Hmong boy bands are that bad. I must say, most of their songs were great, beautiful lyrics and very nice. Their voices are beautiful, matches their songs very nicely. It did sound as if they spent a lot of time on lyrics and composing the music.
Now this is what I call good Hmong music! I’ll defiantly support them in their next album; let’s hope they will continue to produce good modern Hmong music.
Of the 7 songs I decided to translate song number 4 with the title “Hlub 120 xyoo ntxiv” (Love another 120 years) which is also their album’s titled song. I picked this song because it is such a bittersweet song, a very strong and meaningful song. It also saddens me listening to this song and makes me wish for a beautiful love story as this song.
**a little side note to better understand the meaning of the song
“120 years” in Hmong terms means a person’s lifetime, a lot of time this phrase is used to describe an elderly person who’s life had come to an end, such as “he had lived a wonderful 120 years” or another way of using this phrase will be “Will you still love me even when we reached 120 years?”. Pretty much “120 years” is a friendly term for the lifetime of a person.
Thanks to my cyber daughter Sara of HMB for the Hmong lyrics.
***I don’t know why each time I do a song lyrics translation WordPress always mess up my layout!!!***

Artist: Dfap
Album: Vol.1 “Hlub 120 Xyoo Ntxiv”
Release: Dec of 2008 (I believe)D-Fap_-_Hlub_120_Xyoo_Ntxiv.mp3
lub sijhawm lub ntuj tso koj los rau kuv
When the heavens sent you to me
wb nyob ntev ntev los zoo li npau suav xwb
We stay together for a long time, yet it feels like a dream
los txog tav no kuv tseem nco txog
For this long, I still remember
thaum koj thiab kuv nyuam qhuav sib ntsib
The first time when we met
wb txoj kev hlub txawm muaj 120 xyoo
Our love may had reached 120 years
los zoo li nag hmo wb nyuam qhuav sib ntsib
But it seems as if we’ve just met yesterday
thaum koj tig los qhia koj lub npe
When you came to introduced yourself
los txog thaum wb cog lus ua ke
Up to the time we made our vows
lub ntuj txhob cia kuv txoj kev hlub tu
Heavens, please don’t let me lose my love
txawm zoo thiab phem los tsuav kuv muaj nws
No matter bad or good, as long as I have her
cia nws nrog kuv nyob mus ib txhis
Let her stay with me forever
120 xyoo ntxiv
120 more years
[chorus a]
txhob coj nws mus tso nws rau kuv
Please don’t take her, let her stay with me
vim muaj nws kuv thiaj li zoo li no
Because of her I am who I am
cia kuv hlub nws dua ib zaug ntxiv
Let me love her once more
[chorus b]
txhob coj nws mus tso nws rau kuv
Please don’t take her, let her stay with me
vim muaj nws kuv thiaj li zoo li no
Because of her I am who I am
cia kuv hlub 120 xyoo ntxiv
Let me love her 120 more years
[instrumental]
yog kuv ua tau li kuv lub siab xav
If I can do as I wish
kuv yuav thov sau wb txoj hmoo dua
I will rewrite our faith
kom txhua txhua tiam wb tau sib hlub
So every lifetime we’ll still be lovers
nyob ua ke mus tag ib txhis
Together forever
zoo kuv lub siab kuv tau hlub koj
I am happy that I had loved her
tau nrog koj nyob ua koj tus khub
I was able to stay with her and be her partner
tsis muaj dabtsi yuav pauv tau
Nothing can compare
txoj kev hlub koj muab rau kuv
The love you had given me
[chorus a]
txhob coj nws mus tso nws rau kuv
Please don’t take her, let her stay with me
vim muaj nws kuv thiaj li zoo li no
Because of her I am who I am
cia kuv hlub nws dua ib zaug ntxiv
Let me love her once more
[chorus b]
txhob coj nws mus tso nws rau kuv
Please don’t take her, let her stay with me
vim muaj nws kuv thiaj li zoo li no
Because of her I am who I am
cia kuv hlub 120 xyoo ntxiv
Let me love her 120 more years
[chorus a]
txhob coj nws mus tso nws rau kuv
Please don’t take her, let her stay with me
vim muaj nws kuv thiaj li zoo li no
Because of her I am who I am
cia kuv hlub nws dua ib zaug ntxiv
Let me love her once more
[chorus b]
txhob coj nws mus tso nws rau kuv
Please don’t take her, let her stay with me
vim muaj nws kuv thiaj li zoo li no
Because of her I am who I am
cia kuv hlub 120 xyoo ntxiv
Let me love her 120 more years

KAO, PHONG of D-Fap—Thanks so very much for stopping by my blog! I just wanted to let everyone who is like myself, who isn’t sure of supporting a band for the fear of terrible music to know that you guys are worth the buy and worth the supporting. I must say, you guys got me hooked on “Hlub 120 xyoo ntiv” and “Vim Yog Koj”. I could not get enough of those songs!!! Keep up the good work and do produce some more wonderful albums in the years to come! Oh by the way, two thumps up for the song “It Was Me”!! I honestly hate it when Hmong Bands sings in Mekas, but then you guys did such a wonderful job on this song that I can’t say anything bad about it! Once again, GOOD LUCK AND KEEP UP THE WONDERFUL LYRICS AND MUSIC!!!!
