Wonderful camping years
Posted on 27 January 2009

I do not remember what year this was, but I do know that I was young and childish.. I see myself among the group of campers ^_^
Those young and innocent years, where have they gone to? When we were younger all we wanted to do was grow older so we can experience life, but once we are older we miss those beautiful childhood days. I sit here and reminisce about the beautiful childhood I had. I remember back in California during the 4th of July holiday the cousins and family would go camping every year. Those memories are still so beautiful in my head. I was young and I was innocent; I was free like the wind with no care in the world. I still sit here and smile about those young and happy years.
The family and cousins goes camping every year to the same place and we always have a great time. The elders would wake up, cook for us then off we went to play in the beautiful river, when lunch is served we’ll come back to eat and once we are done eating, we’ll all jump back into the river or we’ll all go hiking or even go “catch” fishes for dinner. After dinner we’ll sit around the fire pit and tell ghost stories or we’ll just chit chat away. Often times the kids would have their own fire pit while the grown ups had their own to chitchat. The men would use big broken tree logs and turned them into picnic tables for us to sit and eat. The mothers and daughters would play many rounds of rocks while the guys go fishing.
I remember the year I had almost drowned; we all walked along the river and found the perfect place to swim, so our parents were in the deeper area while us kids who cannot swim hang along the shallow area. Those with life jackets were able to go to the deeper area of the river. I didn’t have a life jacket but saw my mom and the water didn’t seem deep where my mom was so I had decided to go towards her. I didn’t know that between where my mom was and where I was, there was a deep drop off. I had walked into that dropped off and before I know it, I was deep under water, panic for my life I tried to struggle and before I was going to sink down my mom grab hold of my hand and pulled me back up holding me tight. I was lucky that my mom had grabbed me before I drank enough water down below. My mom took me back to the shallow area and there I sat, I was too scared to go any farther.
I remember sitting around the fire place roasting marshmallow while we all talk and laugh. My cousins always called me by “freckled face” and even by “Aero Smith”. I was the little girl that all the older cousins’ enjoyed picking on. Yet those years we were too young for our feelings to get hurt. It was all fun and game, at the end of the day, we were enjoying ourselves. Those were the best family memory I’ve ever had.

I never went camping before. Sounds like fun.
The olden days, I remembered doing something like this with my youngest sister, we went to camping with a group of Philippines that I met through a church that is also one of my former co-workers. The campfire was great, and we took group photos very much like yours, I need to look for that photo.
My youngest sister almost drowned twice in Thailand when she was little, I saved her once, and my dad another time, she walked off into a deep end also.
LADYOFDARKNESS—camping is a lot of fun if you enjoy nature. I sure do miss camping! It’s been over 10 years since i’ve gone camping.
GINGER—you should look for your pictures and share them with us on your blog. It would be nice to see some. I was very lucky to be saved by my mom. I was so scared I only stayed the shallow area after that.
