Here are steps in making Kalabow/ king dumping/ steam buns
Enjoy

the pork or beef, cilantro, green onion, onion, garlic all m ixed togerther

mix the flour, sugar, milk and oil

knead the dough together and let it set and cover for atleast 30min.. save some flour on the side to use later

the eggs from my parent’s farm, yep i get free eggs all the time. boil them and then slice them into pieces.

once the dough is ready, make them into little round piece and roll them flat

put the meat and the egg in the middle of the dough

fold the dough close so the fillings can be in the middle without falling out

it is also very important that you put wax paper on the bottom of the kalabow so it wont stick on the steamer

the kalabow being steamed in my favorite steamer

steam for atleast 30 minute, when putting the kalabow in the steamer make sure they have enough space to grow. (i was too lazy to steam more than one batch so i put them all close together.

ahhh its looking good!!!

I didn’t put a lot of meat in mine but it was yummy
When done steaming i like to cover each individual kalabow in plastic wrap so it will lock in the moisture of the kalabow. put it in refregirater and microwave when want some.

girl… I so wish we were sisters. You’re always making foods I love and foods I hardly get to eat. Ughh…
*drools*
Here comes Martha Steward. Are you sure you are not related to her?
Fantastic cooking! ^^
you make it seem so easy. When i think about making Kalabow, I think difficult. I will have to look up the recipe and try it. I wonder why my mother makes it look so difficult.
I love this, especially with coffee, I do need to give this recipe a try.
Hello! I was inspired by this post so I went and made my own Chinese steamed buns. Thanks for the inspiration!
Hey there, I was wondering what the proper spelling would be for these… I love them!
John, I believe they are called King Dumplins or steam bun, there’s a vietnamese name for these, but I do not know what they are called. sorry.
