Georgia Hmong New Year 2008-2009
Posted on 10 November 2008
The Georgia New Year was this past weekend, and once again, it was another long tiring yet fun weekend. It seems like this year the New Year has gotten bigger, more people attending and more venders, the only thing that has not yet changed is the amount of people who dresses up. I’m proud of myself for dressing up for at least 5 hours on Saturday but by Sunday I was back in my regular clothes.
There were a lot of different type of entertainment coming from different states such as North Carolina, South Carolina, even Florida and of course Georgia; I believe we even had a performance coming from Arkansas too. My little cousins also dances this year although my sister had dropped out this year, she’ll be back to dance with my cousins again next year. One of the best entertainment I saw besides m y little cousin’s dances was a imitation skit from a Hmong movie, were a fan posed himself as Tong, a favorite Hmong character from a movie, he did such a great job at it that it was very convincing that it was him.
The food was great. One of my favorite things about the Hmong New Year is the great foods that are sold at the booths. There are choices such as purple sticky rice with Hmong sausage, Purple sticky rice with chicken leg/whole chicken (small chicken), purple sticky rice with pork, purple sticky rice with American sausage, papaya salad, navah, and many other great choices. I always look forward to the yummy food every year. It just never gets old. And the pepper severed at the New Year is all so good.
The dances and performance will be posted once I get them uploaded on youtube. I’ve been having a hard time uploading on youtube. But for now enjoy the photos.

Here is the Tong imitation. He did such a great job at it that it was even convincing and very entertaining. Tong is a very funny character in all the films he was casted in.

Baby Savier giving Tong money.

Even baby Savier is all dressed up in HMONG.

My favorite little girl. She did such a great job on stage with her dance. And shes only 6. By the way, never argue with this little girl, she knows her facts. ahahaa

caught them right after their dance performance. Lulu and Ceilia are adorable.

Mab Sua Lis, a Hmong singer from Laos, now married and reside in MN.
